Light, camera, action!

October 16, 2010

We all had a great day in Accrington market hall, premiering ‘Animating Accy’, distributing the new map and showing the public the crochet sculptures. Lots of the people who have been involved in the projects came along, with many of the films ‘voices’ turning up to see what creatures Huckleberry Films had turned them into!

The film is now online, and can be seen at:

Workshops in Hyndburn

August 30, 2010

ArtYarn and Huckleberry Films have been working together in Accrington Market Hall as part of Hyndburns second phase of the project.  Huckleberry Films have been interviewing local people about their favourite shops and places in town, and finding out about the different ways they use Accrington.  So if you want to know where to get the tastiest cup of tea and scone in the town centre, or the  best place to find Edinburgh Rock… Dave and Caroline will probably now know the answers!

ArtYarn  has been running crochet workshops with the public, making freeform creations and teaching the skill to people who’ve never done any before. The sessions will be running over various dates for the next few weeks. The crochetted work will be used to decorate the town centre, and some of the final pieces will be included in an animated film being made by Huckleberry Films.

Hyndburn Mela

August 8, 2010

The Hyndburn Mela went really well yesterday. Despite the rainy start to the day, by the time it all got started at 3, the weather had cleared a little bit. Huckleberry Films ran a clay workshop which had over 50 participants each making a clay creature or animal. We had some amazing designs  including a seven eyed monster, an extra long caterpillar with googly eyes, and a very elaborate lion. We also ran a design competition, and will be choosing some of the drawings and clay models to include as characters in our animated film.

Hyndburn Mela – Animating Accy

August 4, 2010

Saturday is looking like it’s going to be a great day! As well as the other events taking place, Huckleberry Films will be holding a creative session at the Hyndburn Mela in Accringtons Oakhill Park with the public between 3 and 6. We are well stocked up with crayons, pencils and felt tips for our competition to design  characters for the animated film we’ll be making. We are leaving the brief quite open, to see what creatures emerge. It could be a person, an animal, a monster… we’re looking forward to seeing the results.

Also, we’ve got a LOT of airdry clay (25kg!) and everyone (all ages welcome) is invited to come and be creative and make something. We will be taking photos of the finished models and using some as inspiration for characters in the animation.  It’s a free session open to all, and the model makers can take their creations home with them.
